Laura’s Journey

My healing journey became a sacred pilgrimage, guiding me through a four-year immersion in Interspiritual Studies and Counseling at One Spirit Learning Alliance. Driven by a deeper call to serve and to unite spiritual insight with practical support, I earned a Master’s degree and licensure in Social Work. These paths blended naturally, forming the foundation of what is now SunWise Counseling.

This journey shapes every aspect of my work and strengthens my commitment to supporting others as they rediscover their own sense of meaning and peace. If this resonates with you, I warmly invite you to reach out and connect.

What I once believed to be the end of my life became the beginning of a deeper awakening.

In 2007, a motorcycle accident completely changed my life. Everything I knew about who I was and how I lived was gone: my ability to walk, to care for and support myself, and my entire worldview. Life as I had known it was over, and I was faced with the daunting task of rebuilding a life I could not have imagined.

In the moments following the accident, I had a near-death experience. Lying in a roadside ditch, I was called by the light of the Sun. It was the warmest, brightest, most peaceful, and loving presence I have ever known. The Sun released me, and the Earth welcomed me back. Devastated yet alive, I would discover what it truly means to live a human life guided by Spirit. Today, I walk with two prosthetic legs, and I live a life shaped by meaning and purpose.

Through everything I’ve faced, my experience revealed that peace does not come from life going as planned; it comes from awakening to the truth that happiness and peace are found within.

I read the book The Four Agreements before taking the workshop but I didn’t make a serious attempt to apply the agreements in my life. They seemed like good ideas but not something I would be able to do. Discussing each of them and hearing others share about their successes and difficulties working with them encouraged me to try implementing them in my daily life. Laura’s office is like Laura herself- soothing and non judgmental. Group members were kind, supportive and interesting. I’d definitely do it again and recommend it to anyone who wants to live with more ease. 2025
